This year's Sony Open at Kapalua came and went. Another sponsor's exemption was doled out to Michelle Wie so she could play against the men and not make the cut. And once again, tour players complained about how another precious exemption was given to a female who never qualified to play in a PGA Tour tournament.
I'm sure I can't imagine what a struggle it is to play tournament golf day in and day out. More difficult it is to have that be your sole method of income. So it is pretty much expected that guys who depend on these tournaments for their food and shelter will bitch and moan about a teenage girl taking a slot that could have belonged to one of their compatriots.
My advise to the "Michelle Wie Sony Open Exemption Slot" candidates, is to get one of two things: 1) a game, or 2)an image consultant. For some, a gym pass, plastic surgery, or membership to the Men's Hair Club may work as well (Men's Hair Club is arguable, since you may wear a hat all the time anyways).
Bottom line is, people want to watch Wie play. She has a game (for a 17 year old girl), a great swing, and she certainly looks a lot better than a majority of the PGA Tour players. So sorry D.J. Trahan, Craig Barlow, Wes Short Jr., and others. You didn't do much better than Michelle, and I'd much rather watch her miss the cut than watch you guys. I understand its your paycheck and all, but frankly, I don't care. For the viewers, professional golf is about entertainment. When Paul Goydos won, what did I get? That's right, lots of Michelle Wie eye candy, that's what.
So let Michelle Wie play all she wants, I'll watch her play prime time golf any day.
